Un nouveau projet original a été annoncé autour de la franchise Gamera : Gamera Rebirth.

La franchise a été lancée en 1965 par le studio Daiei (maintenant Kadokawa Daiei Studio Company) afin de concurrencer le Godzilla de la Toho. Elle a connu 12 adaptations cinématographiques au total.

Le projet Gamera Rebirth a donc été révélé par Netflix et Kadokawa par de simples teasers et affiches montrant l’oeil et la silhouette imposante de Gamera. Nous ignorons pour l’instant s’il s’agira d’un film live ou d’un film animé.

Project Gamera Rebirth has been announced by Netflix and Kadokawa through simple teasers and poster, showing the eye and the huge silhouette of Gamera. As of now, we do not know if it will be a live action movie, or a animated movie.

Le site officiel dépeint Gamera comme l’allié des enfants et de la justice : il est le protecteur de l’Humanité, avec une personnalité unique et une apparence courageuse qui peut résister à n’importe quel ennemi.

Le réalisateur Kaneko Shunsuke, à qui l’on doit la trilogie Gamera Heisei (la favorite des fans), soutient le projet et avait déjà proposé au studio un relaunch pour l’ère Reiwa. Il souhaite voir cette nouvelle production arriver à terme.
